After running a low rated Modern AC format for a few years, Clear Channel decided that they needed to try a new format at 92.1. Going jockless for their last week on the air running messages, WXXM "Mix 92.1" shortly left the air. The final song on the Mix was LEN-Steal Your Sunshine. Air America was set to debut on 92.1, as "92.1 the Mic, Madison's Progressive Talk". The progressive talk format on 92.1 debuted the same day at a progressive talk format on 1670 WTDY.

A move that disappointed a lot of people was when Clear Channel dumped Alternative for Modern AC on 92.1, switching the station to "Mix 92.1". I have a clip of the liner they ran when the format debuted.
