Can we please have some stations, other than WXSS, that realize the 70's are OVER and put that music to rest? I'm all for classic hits, but not on every station!

It's illogical to play the same music all the time from "the good old days." Back in the 70s, you never heard a station playing the same songs over and over again from the 1940s. (There was an attempt to do that in the early 1980s with the "Music of Your Life" format and it quickly died within a few years.) To be successful with a "nostalgia" music format, you need to have an ever-expanding playlist, featuring some mid-chart hits and album cuts (not just whatever made the Top 10 that year) and jocks who can relate to their audience about daily topical issues.

One of the "Original" oldies stations in Milwaukee was WNUW Stereo 99 in 1971-72 when they ran Drake Chenault's "Solid Gold" format. While it was mostly 50's and 60's hits, it also included 4 or so "currents" per hour. Maybe someone could try this, updated with a "base" of 80's and 90's, along with a few currents.

Jeff, you'll find that most stations are voice tracked or automated and run jockless. With no human being actually running the show, the music is played at random, with no thought put into tempo, genre, or relate-ability. No wonder you hear 70s/80s stations playing a music sweep of "Convoy" by C.W. McCall followed by "Living on A Prayer" by Bon Jovi, followed by "You Light Up My Life" by Debby Boone. It's just "play whatever comes up" ...a lame attempt at the Jack Format.

First, I wish some of these stations would take a good, hard look at the music they're playing and ask themselves if their listeners REALLY NEED to hear Debby Boone or C.W. McCall. If they had a live body actually running the station, that person would present a better product by moving songs around or adjusting the music log as the day progresses. Yes...back in 1976 we played the Top hits...whatever they were...along with some recurrents and recent gold. But (in 1976) we didn't play the Top hits of 1976 along with the Top Hits of 1952. Retro Top 40 is just too broad of a spectrum to expect your listeners to embrace the wide range of music.
