Post subject: Music all Over the Place

I couldn't resist. A competing station that claims to play "all of the best of the 70s and 80s" just played "The Boys Are Back in Town" by Thin Lizzy, followed by "Snowbird" by Anne Murray, followed by "Too Much Time on My Hands" by Styx. So, I called the station and I asked to talk with someone in "program management." Surprisingly, I was put thru to someone who said they belonged in management and I asked him why his station plays such a hodgepodge of music. I told him I thought the music was ridiculous. His reply was "our research shows that people wanted to hear those songs" and the station is trying to offer a wide variety of music." Ha-ha-ha!

Utter bullshit! Let's face it. The station is obviously voice-tracked and there is no one in the studio attending to the order of the music. It's just whatever comes up out of the 1000 songs the station has chosen to play and it's just a mish-mash of whatever was a Top 10 hit over the past 40 years. That's why today's radio stations are just not in the same league as the stations we listened to 30-40 years ago.
